Jehovah’s Witness Montana Child Abuse Lawsuit

Nix Patterson partner Neil Smith and associate Ross Leonoudakis represented two young ladies that were sexually abused by their step-father. Elders at their Jehovah’s Witness church had received letters and complaints about the step-father abusing children. Instead of reporting the child molester to the authorities, the church watched as he continued to have other children in his home. We were able to prove that the National Headquarters of the church also knew about the abuse. Montana law requires the church elders to report the known abuser. The church did not report the known child molester because of their secrecy policy.  The jury found that the local church and the national office were liable for failing to report the abuse to the authorities.
