Nix Patterson Reveals Abuse in Letter to Kingfisher School District

On April 26, 2023, Nix Patterson’s lawyers sent a demand letter to the administration of Kingfisher High School. The letter sets out our clients’ demands to resolve an ongoing lawsuit involving hazing and child abuse in the Kingfisher athletic program.

In the letter, Nix Patterson outlined years of abuse inside the high school football program while under the supervision of head coach Jeff Myers. As reported by the Oklahoman, Nix Patterson obtained a 2018 video of a locker room fist-fighting ritual called “The Ring.” This vicious tradition pits freshmen against each other for the team’s and coaches’ entertainment.

Other incidences of abuse included multiple sexual assaults and physical, mental and psychological abuse going back to 2005.

Nix Patterson’s demand letter requires the following:

  • Kingfisher must fire its head football coach, Jeff Myers.
  • Kingfisher must pay Plaintiff $5,000,000.
  • Kingfisher must institute a mandatory training program for all its administrators, staff, teachers, coaches, volunteers, and Board members that addresses how to properly identify, respond to, and prevent bullying, hazing, and sexual harassment.

Kingfisher ISD has 14 days from the date of the letter to accept these terms or the amount increases to $10,000,000.
