James brings over twenty years’ experience to the firm and has devoted his practice entirely to litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. James joined Nix Patterson in 2018. Prior to joining the firm, James clerked for the Honorable Timothy D. DeGiusti, Chief Judge to the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. James’ previous work experience also includes over thirteen years in private practice at an esteemed civil litigation boutique firm in Oklahoma City and clerking for the Honorable Robin J. Cauthron during her tenure as Chief Judge of the Western District of Oklahoma.
James attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served as Executive Editor of the American Indian Law Review. During law school, among many other internships, James interned for United States Magistrate Judge Shon T. Erwin of the Western District of Oklahoma, the Honorable Charles Johnson of the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals, as well as the Oklahoma State Senate where he assisted senate legal staff in drafting legislation.
James is a past recipient of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Fern Holland Courageous Lawyer Award and the bar association’s Pro Bono Award.
He has served on a variety of civil society committees, including the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Federal Bar Association; the Civil Procedure Committee of the Oklahoma Bar Association;, and the Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Historical Society of the Western District of Oklahoma, where he chairs the Notable Cases Committee. He is also an officer of the Holloway Scholars Committee for the Federal Bar Association-Oklahoma City Chapter.
