Nix Patterson Wins $149.5M for Washington in Opioid Case Against J&J

Nix Patterson, LLP is proud to announce that our dedicated team of attorneys has successfully negotiated a landmark $149.5 million settlement with pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. This significant resolution marks the culmination of over four years of relentless legal pursuit on behalf of the people of Washington state. Notably, this agreement surpasses the compensation offered in a national settlement reached in 2021, underscoring the unwavering commitment of Nix Patterson and its legal team to secure the maximum compensation possible for those affected by the opioid crisis. Nix Patterson Partner, Brad Beckworth, led this historic effort along with Drew PateLisa Baldwin, and Trey Duck.

At the heart of this historic case is the opioid addiction crisis that has ravaged communities across the nation. In 2020, Washington state’s Democratic Attorney General took decisive action by filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, alleging its complicity in fueling the proliferation of prescription opioids. The Attorney General’s office argued that Johnson & Johnson played a pivotal role in misleading doctors and the public regarding the efficacy of opioids for chronic pain, while downplaying the inherent risks of addiction.

“This settlement sends a powerful message that those responsible for perpetuating the opioid epidemic will be held accountable for their actions,” said Brad Beckworth, lead attorney at Nix Patterson. “We commend the resolve of the Washington state Attorney General’s office in pursuing justice on behalf of the countless individuals and families whose lives have been shattered by addiction.”Nix Patterson, LLP remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for justice and accountability in cases of corporate wrongdoing. This historic settlement underscores our unwavering dedication to achieving meaningful results for our clients and communities impacted by systemic injustices.
