Chad Ihrig is Senior Counsel with Nix Patterson. Chad has spent more than 20 years representing clients throughout the United States in a wide variety of matters. Such matters include class actions and mass torts involving defective medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs, catastrophic accidents, insurance bad faith, business litigation, trade secret, fraud, and general civil litigation.
Chad grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma, a small rural town in north-central Oklahoma. He worked his way through high school and college running his own lawn mowing and landscaping business.
Chad began his career as a medical malpractice defense attorney representing doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes in professional negligence actions. Prior to joining Nix Patterson, Chad was a partner in a prominent Oklahoma City law firm. Between 2004 and 2012, Chad was appointed class counsel in more than 25 nationwide class actions previously pending in Miller County, Arkansas against more than 50 insurance companies related to the underpayment of overhead and profit in homeowners’ insurance claims and the use of the Colossus software in the adjustment of personal injury claims. These historic insurance class actions required more than 8 years of hard work, which involved numerous federal and state appeals, hundreds of millions of pages of documents, and hundreds of contested motions. These class actions were recognized as achieving remarkable results for the classes—up to a 100% recovery—by the Judges overseeing the cases and resulted in more than 45 nationwide class action settlements valued in excess of $3 billion.
Between 2014 and 2018, Chad served as Discovery Co-Chair of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the In re: Consolidated Fresenius Cases, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Civil Action No. 2013-03400. Most recently, Chad was appointed Co-Lead Counsel for Plaintiffs in the In Re: Strattice Hernia Mesh Litigation, pending in the Superior Court of New Jersey, MCL Case No. 636 and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Case No. 2:21-cv-17705.
Litigating throughout the country, Chad has taken hundreds of depositions, including depositions of expert witnesses, prescribing physicians, corporate witnesses, and third-party witnesses. Chad regularly argues at hearings throughout the United States and is primarily responsible for leading the mass tort department at Nix Patterson.
