NP Wins $3.5M in School Volunteer Civil Rights Case

Nix Patterson partner Neil Smith worked with our good friend and co-counsel Cameron Spradling, representing school children who were victims of unwanted touching by a school volunteer. We established that the school violated state law by failing to properly report the abuse. Most importantly, we proved that the school violated the civil rights of the female victims by discriminating against them based upon their sex. Ultimately, the school district admitted to violating our client’s civil rights and confessed to a $3.5 million verdict against the school. This result has been reported as the largest payment ever by an Oklahoma public school to resolve a case.
